Within yards of the beach at Aldwick, Coastguards is a great cottage for a family holiday
A beautifully presented 18th century cottage situated in a most leafy and peaceful setting that is the perfect antidote to enable you to relax and unwind. Found tucked away between two private estates it is as near to the coast as you can get leaving you only a leisurely stroll down to the quiet beach at Aldwick. We feel you will enjoy this cottage because every effort is made by the owner to make you feel welcome. It feels like a private retreat from the moment you enter through the arched courtyard gate at the front, to stepping into the rear courtyard garden which is nicely secluded. It provides both full and dappled shade so is the perfect antidote after a day on the beach!
Coastguards Cottage is beautifully restored yet it retains many period features — in particular the original flagstone flooring in the kitchen and the open fireplace in the living room that in winter with a natural fire makes a break even more cosy. It is a comfortable home offering spacious accommodation for six with two double bedrooms and a twin bedded room that is cleverly arranged over three floors to make the most of the space available to you. A family bathroom with shower over the bath is on the first floor.
A small parade of shops that is typical of an English village is located diagonally opposite so the local butcher and village store are only moments away.
Aldwick and beyond
Aldwick is a village between Bognor Regis and Pagham. It offers a relaxed setting which appears caught in a peaceful time capsule between the bustle of Bognor Regis two miles to the east and the utter tranquillity of Pagham and Pagham Harbour a mile or two to the west. This part of the coastline is a haven for unusual birds and wildlife with Pagham Harbour Nature Reserve and Chichester Harbour a little further to the west both being areas of outstanding natural beauty. Pagham Harbour is an internationally important site for nature conservation while Chichester Harbour also combines its wildlife attractions with sailing centres such as Itchenor, Bosham, Dell Quay and Emsworth. Between these harbours there are beaches at Selsey and the Witterings, the latter offering unrivalled views across the Solent to the Isle of Wight.
Chichester the cathedral city of Sussex is no more than five miles away. It has played a key role in the affairs of Sussex since at least Roman times. The city has broad streets that are packed with listed buildings headed by the towering presence of the cathedral.
The city centre is neatly enclosed within the ancient city walls, which helps to make Chichester compact and pleasant to explore on foot. It is a cosmopolitan, vibrant and friendly city proudly combining two thousand years of heritage with a lively lifestyle. A trip to the Chichester Festival Theatre close by to the centre is worth considering since it is famous for the quality of theatre production many of which premiere here before moving on to the London theatre scene. For the film buff the cinema complex and nearby restaurants to the south of the city also make for an enjoyable evening out.
There is always much to see and do in Sussex and staying on the coast gives the best of both; beaches close by and an easy springboard back inland to explore the South Downs a great area to walk.
