A great holiday retreat in a quaint Hastings holiday cottage high above the old town

The middle of three quaint cottages, Glen Cottage enjoys a fine setting at the top of Hastings Old Town. This ground floor cottage is really spacious with great living and bedroom space allowing two people to relax completely. Outside the cottage enjoys a private and secluded garden to the front that is well tended by the owners and is there for guests to enjoy. We have this lovely little cottage available for Easter and between May and late summer every year.

The cottage borders the Hastings Country Park which stretches east along the cliffs from Hastings to Pett Level. It is just metres from the sandstone cliffs and only a short walk back to the East Cliff Railway that links with the Old Town, the Hastings Beach fishing fleet and many fish restaurants.

Glen Cottage has wonderful through space. The kitchen at the front opens onto the living space behind featuring a cosy fireplace with a woodburning stove which although electric still offers a wonderful warm glow. The bedroom leads from the living room via double opening doors and is a wonderfully sized room that also has a feature ornamental fireplace. There is a separate shower room with an excellent sized power shower.

Hastings and beyond

Hastings is a traditional seaside resort popular with many who enjoy a few days away by the sea. Hastings Old Town sits at the foot of the Hastings Cliff Railway, the East Lift in fact links the old town with the Country Park and the railway is currently Britain’s steepest. It is just a short distance from Glen Cottage. The popular television series Foyle's War was largely set in Hastings and the surrounding area.

Hastings Old Town is full of historic buildings and quaint streets and is particularly famous for its beach fishing fleet, the largest in Europe. Much of the tradition has been kept and the net drying huts are today preserved at the top of the beach and sit amongst the many fresh fish stores at the foot of the cliffs. The Shipwreck and Coastal Heritage Museum is also found here and worth visiting; we carry a link under our ‘Places to Visit’ section.

The Hastings Country Park has over 267 hectares of ancient woodland, heathland and grassland together with three miles (5km) of dramatic cliffs and coastline. Lying within the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, most of the park has been designated a Special Area of Conservation, a Site of Special Scientific Interest and is a designated Local Nature Reserve.

This whole area is of course 1066 Country and we could comment forever about what there is to see and do. Suffice to say, no visit would be complete without a trip to Battle and Battle Abbey. Read up about it again under ‘Places to Visit’ for East Sussex.
