Having the most fabulous views over the Pulborough Wildbrooks and towards the South Downs, Riverside is an outstanding townhouse on the banks of the River Arun. This property is presented to an exceptional standard with a very high quality finish that we feel the most discerning visitor will fully appreciate.
You’ll certainly enjoy taking your breakfast, lunch and dinner from the first floor balcony, while fully appreciating this most wonderful panorama across the South Downs National Park. Then in the evening you can relax into the sumptuous leather sofas on the first floor living room.
The house is set over three floors, with a wonderful and bright open-plan living room and kitchen on the first floor, and two double bedrooms on the second floor. The principal bedroom takes in the wonderful views and has ensuite facilities with a substantial walk-in shower. The super king size bed can be separated if need be into twin beds for extra flexibility, while the second bedroom is fitted with a double bed and is presented beautifully in an ‘art deco’ style. The bathroom facilities are in a modern ‘clean living’ style with the family bathroom having both a bath and shower.
On the ground floor there is a downstairs cloakroom, a second kitchen/utility room and access by stable door into the rear garden with a private patio area. The garden has its own access to the river bank where you will often see swans, ducks and Canada geese, the residents and seasonal residents of Pulborough Wildbrooks!
This house is perfect for couples or friends getting together. We must stress though that it is not available to families with children.
Pulborough and beyond
The South Downs National Park falls right on the boundary of Riverside. The Pulborough Brooks is in fact a deliberate flood plain, so periodically it becomes a spectacular lake totally transforming the landscape. There are many excellent walks across the Brooks and along the banks of the River Arun offering uninterrupted views south towards the South Downs. Part of the Brooks contains one of the RSPB’s major reserves in the south and just two miles from the house. We carry a link to the RSPB reserve within ‘Places to visit’ on our website.
Also nearby is the West Sussex Golf Club which is regularly judged one of the outstanding inland courses in Britain with ‘a priceless oasis of heather, sand, heath and trees beneath the Sussex Downs’. For any golf lover, staying at Riverside is very convenient indeed.
Four miles south east in the direction of Storrington and nestling at the foot of the South Downs is Parham House, a magnificent Elizabethan home that is a real jewel. Again it is featured under ‘Places to visit’ - a half day there is time well spent.
Heading northwest from Pulborough is the historic market town of Petworth. It is best known as the location of the stately home Petworth House and deer park which was landscaped by Capability Brown. The house and its grounds are now owned by the National Trust. The magnificent country house contains an internationally renowned art collection with numerous works by Turner. Petworth itself was immortalised in his paintings. The town is full of quaint houses and cottages, many within their own courtyard settings. They are interspersed with antique shops and tearooms so it makes the ideal place for a stroll following a visit to Petworth House and Park.
This area of West Sussex has a variety of events that occur through the year from Goodwood racing and the Goodwood motorsport meetings, to the Arundel Festival, racing at Fontwell and polo at Cowdray. Details on all of these are found under our ‘What’s on’ heading.
Riverside is a great base to enjoy any of these - it is within a twenty minute drive of them all.
