The Dairy Annexe forms part of a beautiful conversion of a former dairy that is set just a short distance from the sand dunes at Climping. The beach is within a ten minute stroll along paths that lead over open fields and it is a similar stroll to the local village pub.

The annexe offers comfortable accommodation for two with a lounge and kitchenette, spacious bathroom and bedroom. Both bedroom and lounge come with a wall mounted flat screen television with freeview. The kitchenette is equipped with a hob and combination microwave oven and larder fridge.

The garden at the Dairy is an excellent size with mature trees and shrubs and uninterrupted views across the fields towards the dunes behind the beach and towards Littlehampton. The garden is open for guests to enjoy and it makes for a relaxing setting to enjoy after some sightseeing or a day on the beach.

Climping and beyond

The beach at Climping and sand dunes are a place of special scientific interest and stretch for a couple of miles. On the eastern end is West Beach that meets with the estuary of the River Arun at Littlehampton. At the top of the beach is the West Beach Café constructed from locally sourced materials by local craftsmen. It comes highly recommended for its fish and chips! In Climping main street, about a half mile stroll over the fields, The Black Horse is your nearest local pub, while a short distance beyond is Bailiffscourt Hotel and Restaurant., a ‘Medieval Manor’ built in 1927 should you fancy a slightly more ‘formal’ lunch or dinner during your stay.

Littlehampton is the nearest town that is two miles east and next to the River Arun. The site of the old toll bridge is now a footbridge across the river and it is found at the end of the old main road. It is a manageable walk into the town from the cottage should you choose.

Travel north and you have the beauty of Sussex to explore. Arundel upstream on the River Arun and four miles away is a historic market town dominated by the symbolic castle and the rising spire of the cathedral. The town makes an imposing site when approached from the south. It offers a plethora of craft and antique shops as well as restaurants and tearooms. It’s a great place to wander and just enjoy its hospitality.

Arundel Castle is the seat of the Dukes of Norfolk and is set in 40 acres of sweeping grounds and gardens. The castle has been seasonally open to visitors for nearly 200 years. It is one of the great treasure houses of England and is home to priceless works of art in stunning rooms. Climbing the 131 steps to the Keep, which dates from the 11th century, to take in the views over Arundel and The South Downs is definitely worth the effort.

Beyond the castle grounds Arundel Park extends north towards the Downs offering many fine walks. Within the park along the Gallops the John Dunlop Stables exercise their horses daily, which makes for an impressive sight if you can time your walk just right!

The River Arun winds its way around the town and is a magnet for wildlife. With more than 60 acres of ponds, lakes and reed beds, Arundel Wildfowl and Wetland Trust attracts some of the worlds most spectacular ducks, geese and swans. The best way to enjoy the river is on a river cruise stopping off at the Black Rabbit pub or proceeding further north where the river hugs the scarp wooded slope at the foot of the Downs before reaching Amberley.

Further afield Goodwood and Fontwell racecourses are nearby along with the cathedral city of Chichester with its excellent Festival Theatre noted for not only the quality of productions, but also the fact many world premieres are featured as well.
