The Lodge is a fantastic contemporary building just perfect for a couple. It has substantial living space downstairs that combines with a modern kitchen. The feature spiral staircase immediately catches the eye yet does not distract from the magnificent space here. Upstairs there is a superbly presented double bedroom fitted with a king sized bed and an offset bathroom suite with roll top bath and a wonderful cosy lighting feature perfect for that relaxing evening soak.
The Lodge is set in the private grounds of the owners’ one acre home, and is adjacent to The Thatched Cottage that we also feature. Guests enjoy exclusive use of a private paddock that overlooks Normanhurst Forest. It is a wonderful setting here on the fringes of Battle offering many local walks in this area of the Sussex High Weald.
The Lodge is just two miles to the west of the historic town of Battle and Battle Abbey. The magnificent Abbey is so central to the town and a visit here takes you to the heart of 1066 Country. The Abbey was of course founded by William the Conqueror on the site of the Battle of Hastings and today is an English Heritage site. When William died he left many gifts in the Abbey that include his royal cloak and a portable altar used on his campaigns. Today the Abbey has a wealth of interactive displays and a cafe that offers wonderful views across the battlefield.
Three miles to the south Hastings Old Town is full of historic buildings and quaint streets and is particularly famous for its beach fishing fleet, the largest in Europe. Much of the tradition has been kept and the net drying huts are today preserved at the top of the beach and sit amongst the many fresh fish stores at the foot of the cliffs. The Shipwreck and Coastal Heritage Museum is also found here and worth visiting; we carry a link under our ‘Places to Visit’ section.
