"This holiday cottage was a delight to stay at. It was beautifully decorated and furnished to a very high standard and the enclosed courtyard was perfect for our toddler as he could play safely outside. A great location in Sussex! Luxury holiday accommodation for four that is perfect for Goodwood and Chichester
We often say that Sussex is such a superb county to visit since so much is on the doorstep. This is certainly the case with the Stables, a beautifully converted old stable building that is finished to an exceptional standard. Situated on the edge of the picturesque village of Walberton, it is perfect for Goodwood, Fontwell Park, Arundel, Chichester, Pagham Harbour, the coast, the South Downs and much more.
The Stables has been cleverly converted with guests’ comfort very much in mind. There is a bright and spacious central living room with exposed beams and a superb central fireplace with log burning stove that is the heart of this property. The two bedrooms are at opposite ends of the accommodation each having ensuite facilities. The principal bedroom is fitted with a king sized bed while the second bedroom has twin beds that can be easily moved together if required. There is underfloor heating throughout and a wetroom for both showers. The bathroom attached to the principal bedroom also has a bath.
The kitchen is modern and comprehensively equipped, fitted with the latest induction hob. The area works well having a small breakfast bar, or possibly more a social perch to sit and chat while meals are being prepared! The dining table will comfortably seat six should any friends come over for dinner.
The outside space is completely private and also secure. It combines an area for secure parking and since the Stables is within four miles of Goodwood this is very useful for anyone bringing a classic car to either the Festival of Speed or the Revival Meeting.
Walberton and beyond
Walberton is a convenient mid way spot between Arundel and Chichester. In addition to being in the perfect location for the premiere motorsport events at Goodwood each year, the Stables is also within a mile of Fontwell Park Races a unique figure of eight track and a jewel for West Sussex. Right next to Fontwell is Denmans Gardens a delightful four acre garden that is full of ideas for the keen gardener to take home with them.
The beaches at Climping and Bognor Regis are within five miles. Climping is a beautiful unspoilt length of beach of Special Scientific Interest. At its eastern end, beside the mouth of the River Arun, is the West Beach Café built by local craftsmen using materials sourced locally. It is worth a visit, the fish and chips do come highly recommended!
Further west Pagham Harbour Nature Reserve is another area of outstanding natural beauty and a place of special scientific interest. The harbour has a small entrance to the sea so remains tidal and has extensive walks that link Bognor Regis and Aldwick in the east with Siddlesham and Selsey in the west.
A short distance to the east from Walberton, Arundel is a historic market town, dominated by the symbolic castle and the rising spire of the cathedral. It offers a plethora of craft and antique shops, as well as restaurants and tearooms. It’s a great place to wander and just enjoy the hospitality on offer there.
Arundel Castle is the seat of the Dukes of Norfolk, and is set in 40 acres of sweeping grounds and gardens. The castle has been seasonally open to visitors for almost 200 years. It is one of the great treasure houses of England, and is home to priceless works of art in stunning rooms. Climbing the 131 steps to the Keep, which dates from the 11th century, to take in the views over Arundel and The South Downs is definitely worth the effort.
Five miles to the west of the Stables is Chichester, the cathedral city of Sussex. It is one of the great well-preserved Georgian cities in the UK that has played a key role in the affairs of Sussex since at least Roman times. The city’s broad streets are packed with Listed buildings, headed by the towering presence of the cathedral. In the late spring and summer the cathedral spire is home to a family of peregrine falcons who swoop over the city at dusk
The city centre is neatly enclosed within the ancient city walls, which helps to make Chichester compact and pleasant to explore on foot. It is a cosmopolitan, vibrant and friendly city proudly combining two thousand years of heritage with a lively lifestyle.
Chichester is also home to the famous Festival Theatre. It is renowned for its quality of productions, as well as featuring many world premieres. We have a link to the theatre from our website under “What’s On”.
