Enjoy a short break away in Hurstpierpoint, a charming small market town in the heart of Mid-Sussex
West Wing is really bright and charming. This lovely apartment is next to the owner’s home in Hurstpierpoint and is perfect for getting to Brighton, into London, or more locally just enjoying the South Downs and the other small towns and villages of Ditchling, Hassocks and Keymer that like Hurstpierpoint sit below the Downs.
The apartment is within 0.5 miles of the centre of Hurspierpoint, a beautiful and traditional market town. It is appointed to the highest standard with a lot of thought and attention given to detail to ensure guests’ comfort. In particular we admire the way space has been maximised. The accommodation is very spacious for two people with a wonderful vaulted ceiling to the living room that opens out onto a garden terrace behind. The bedroom has a double bed and the shower room contains a very spacious shower which we are certain guests will appreciate. As the name suggests, the apartment faces west so the outside patio enjoys the afternoon and evening sun and makes a relaxing area to chill following an active day.
Hurstpierpoint and beyond
Hurstpierpoint is one of a line of towns and villages that sit at the foot of the scarp slopes of the South Downs. The main street runs west to east and is made up of buildings that date from the eighteenth century giving it that traditional English small market town appeal with many individual and local shops. It is on the boundary of the South Downs National Park and is particularly close to Ditchling Beacon and Devil’s Dyke, two of the best known landmarks along the South Downs Way. Between these two landmarks are the famous Jack and Jill Windmills that sit atop the Downs at Clayton. Although Jack is now in private ownership Jill remains an operational mill and is open to the public on selective days through the year.
The town is within two miles of the mainline rail service between Brighton and London so a day in London is only one hour away. Brighton is just six miles to the south and of course it is lively and bustling with a lot of culture and many say it is quite unique. One of its most famous landmarks is the Royal Pavilion the spectacular seaside palace of the Prince Regent, (George IV) and the Regency heritage of this period is much in evidence in the city. The seafront promenade between Brighton and Hove is always popular and worth walking in particular on a bracing morning!
Seven miles east from West Wing, Lewes is the county town of East Sussex. Its castle overlooks the town and is open to visitors, as is the Barbican Museum opposite. In such an historic town there is much to see. Lewes is famous for its bonfire celebrations and each year these are attended by thousands of visitors. Visiting on the first Saturday of the month is recommended when a thriving Farmers' Market takes place with lots of delicious fare on offer.
Glyndebourne the world famous and world class opera house is a further three miles east from Lewes and is within a 30 minute drive of Hurstpierpoint. Glyndebourne restarted and reinvigorated opera in England and today it offers unique presentations in the Sussex countryside attracting world leading performers. We provide a link into Glyndebourne from under our “What’s On” heading should you want more information.
We are just touching on a few things to do here, the advantage of staying in mid- Sussex of course is that everything is easily accessible.
