Summer holidays always pop into our heads at this time of year - I'm not sure whether that's to do with enjoying family gatherings or dreaming of escape, or just having the time to think about it, but anyway there's no better time to get planning. We have a varied selection of fabulous holiday properties in Sussex, from luxury homes to cosy country cottages and seaside apartments. There are farm stays and dog-friendly cottages in beautiful rural villages as well as more urban experiences, all within easy reach of transport links and facilities.
Please excuse my bias, I've lived in many different places but always adored returning to Sussex and am proud to be a resident. I love introducing my county to you and look forward to welcoming you on your next holiday. I'd like to share with you some of the highlights I'll be looking forward to this month, and if there's this much going on in January just think how much choice there will be in the warmer months!
Right now you can still enjoy the exhilarating outdoor ice-skating rink at the Royal Pavilion in Brighton, to keep up the festive feel. Hickstead showground plays host to winter polo on two weekends this month. There's racing at Plumpton and Fontwell, and weekend guided tours of medieval Bodiam castle followed by roast lunch... yum (you need to book for those).
For the more indoors-minded, Sussex's major art galleries and theatres have enticing programmes on offer - and the Brighton Pavilion is celebrating the acquisition of 'Brighthelmston, Sussex' with an exhibition showing how Turner and his contemporaries saw the town as it developed into a fashionable seaside resort.
It might not be sailing weather for any but the hardiest, but there are always opportunities for walking, cycling and riding in Sussex. You can ramble from the doorstep of most of our cosy cottages, perhaps ending up at a nice village pub or tearoom for a bite of Sussex produce. Our seaside and town apartments are close to a wealth of world-class restaurants, cafes and tourist attractions. So please feel free to browse our website, and we at Amberley House Cottage Holidays look forward to welcoming you to Sussex this year.
