Now in its seventh year, the Rye Scallop Festival showcases the mollusc at its best and the humble scallop has never felt so loved.
Each year around the month of February, Rye, East Sussex hosts a celebration of this tiny sea creature. A programme of cooking demonstrations and courses, with tasting sessions and menus filled with scallops, cooked every possible way. The fishing community, locals, pubs and restaurants all get behind the event and it really is a culinary delight and an excuse to over indulge.
The beautiful setting in which the festival is located adds to the atmosphere and experience, and is a great boost to local tourism.
This year the festival falls during Valentine's weekend, so a perfect excuse to spoil a loved one and visit the romantic, cobbled streets of Rye and sample the many eateries.
Why not book a long weekend at one of our many holiday cottages in the picturesque town or surrounding area and fall in love with the place and the humble scallop?
