To celebrate Sussex Day on Thursday 16 June, Horsham District Council’s Health Walks team has organised two free to attend scenic walks on the South Downs.
Both walks start from the car park in the centre of Steyning High Street. Those who wish to attend are being invited to meet at 9.45am to start walking at 10am. There are two circular walks, one of 4.5 miles (2 hours) and one of 6 miles (2.5 to 3 hours).
The walks are intended to get up onto the Downs, so both walks will involve a reasonably steep and long climb up the escarpment. However, there will be no rush to reach the top and if the weather is fine, the groups will stop for a break once reaching the top of the escarpment.
For people who are coming by car, park in any car park in Steyning and meet at the car park in Steyning High Street opposite the clock. Disc parking operates in two car parks in Steyning. The discs can be obtained from shops in the High Street. The discs limit the holder to two hours parking. There is unlimited parking in Fletchers Croft, which is at the eastern end of the village.
For those who are coming by bus, bus numbers 2A, 20 and 59 connect with Brighton and Shoreham. Compass Bus numbers 100,106,108 and 109 connect with Burgess Hill, Worthing and Horsham.
