The Sussex Cottage Holiday Blog - Taking pride in Sussex

Taking pride in Sussex

Brighton, East Sussex

Brighton seems to have been in the news a lot lately. I'm delighted to hear the Dome Theatre has secured a £5 million Lottery boost towards a revamp, and that the city has secured its Pride Festival for another five years, with a few variations which include opening a play area for children. Pride always sees huge numbers of visitors to Brighton - in fact this year something like 33,000 attended - and our wonderful Brighton and Hove holiday apartments are ideal if you're planning to head down there next August.

Another recent event that provided a huge boost to Sussex tourism was the Tour of Britain, which apparently benefited Sussex and Surrey to the tune of about £3 million and really showcased our lovely county. It was a fantastically popular event, with crowds lining the roads to cheer the riders on (one of my friends is still in a state of wobbly-kneed awe, not just from watching the last gruelling climb up Bear Road but also from being looked right in the eyes by Mark Cavendish as he rode alongside a team car).

There's some great cycling in Sussex, whatever your level. From serious roadwork to mountain biking on the South Downs and good old leisurely pleasure riding along country lanes and seaside promenades, many of our holiday cottages are ideally located for cycling. And if you're not able to bring your own bikes there are plenty of places to hire them locally.

Further along the coast at Chichester, the fascinating Novium Museum of human history has just scrapped admission charges. With constantly-changing galleries, new exhibits, interactive activities and regular lunchtime and evening lectures it's a great place to visit and an entertaining way to discover more about Chichester's intriguing past, from Roman times to the present day - in fact it's built above a massive Roman bath-house complex.

We can find you a fabulous holiday cottage that's perfectly placed to visit Brighton or Chichester and so much Sussex coast and countryside within easy reach of both. Click here to take a look at our website - we look forward to welcoming you.
