An excellent short break

"We had an very enjoyable few days in Angel Cottage at the beginning of June, and the weather was brilliant. We were welcomed by Richard when we arrived, he was very friendly and helpful. We particularly appreciated the welcome pack of food - including bread, a fruit basket and a bottle of wine. We packed a lot into a few days, from exploring Arundel Castle, and visiting the excellent Wetland Centre. Plus having a good game of adventure golf in Norfolk Gardens, Littlehampton, not too far away. Angel Cottage is very near the river and the town, both a short walk along the road. It was really useful having the Co-op opposite - next time we won't bring much food with us. Also very useful at Angel Cottage is to have a parking space - this was one of the reasons for selecting this particular cottage for our break. The only downside from our point of view was the traffic noise in the double bedroom, which is at the front of the house. Because the weather was really hot, we had the window open - all was fairly peaceful until about 5am or so! Next time we'll sleep at the back. We look forward to another break at Angel Cottage before too long."

A weekend stay in Aurndel.

"Angel Cottage is in a idyll location, with pubs, restaurants and shops nearby, so no need to self cater too much, is in a short walking distance of the castle, cathedral and a great walk along the river Arun, and the Lido behind. The cottage is clean and well considered, and has all that you could need and we received a warm friendly welcome and introduction from the owner, and quickly rectified a problem when needed. It is nicely decorated, functionally furnished and some quirky ornaments, but would be great to see some local pictures or maps the area on the walls. "

Great week in Arundel

"Very comfortable cottage. Co-op & chippy opposite both used & recommended. Easy walk to all of Arundel's attractions & cottage situated conveniently for trips to Littlehampton, West Wittering, Chichester, etc. I would recommend Fishers Farm Park if you have young children (fun for adults too !). We enjoyed an excellent, good value breakfast at Moathouse Cafe just over the bridge on the left."

Angel cottage, a little piece of heaven!

"Angel cottage really was a piece of heaven for the time we were there. Upon arriving at the cottage we discovered a very generous grocery pack! The cottage was the perfect size for our family of four and incredibly quiet. Location couldn't be more ideal, bang opposite a Coop and within 5 min walking distance of Arundel Castle and town. "

Comfortable stay in Arundel

"Despite our late arrival we were warmly welcomed and shown all relevant aspects of the cottage. Familiar with the area we settled in quickly and found the ability to park a real bonus compared to other properties in Arundel on offer. We never did work out how to turn off the Kitchen light?! To improve as a holiday let a washing machine would be an advantage. we ended taking our dirty washing to mother in law"

We're really glad that you enjoyed your stay. The kitchen light switch is there, somewhere! and a challenge carried over from a previous guest maybe! Seriously though, the owner is very helpful and I am sure that little conundrum will soon be solved. Hopefully we will see you again at some point in the future.

Angel Cottage is a lovely comfortable place to stay in a wonderful location

"My wife, our three children and I have just returned after a wonderful and relaxing stay at Angel Cottage. I was contacted in advance by the landlord via e-mail to make arrangements for our arrival. When we got there, after a long journey, he had the heating on and had left a welcome pack of some basic necessities. The cottage is very nicely ?ecorated throughout and has a lovely comfortable warm feeling. It is situated directly across the road from a well-stocked Co-Op supermarket, an ATM machine and a Fish & Chip shop. There is a lovely pub two doors down and a coffee shop in the other direction. The beautiful town centre of Arundel is about two minutes walk away. If you are visiting in the summer, the town's Lido is just behind Angel Cottage. The only minor negative is that because the house is on the street, sleeping-in is not an easy task !!!!! But it's a very small price to pay when you can enjoy this property and the surrounding area."

Perfect Stay

"I stayed with my wife and young children at Angel Cottage during their half term holiday and we could not have had a more wonderful stay. We were met by Richard who had not only been really flexible with timings as we had had a long way to travel, but also was incredibly helpful and had provided us with a few food essentials and a welcome bottle of wine. The cottage was kitted out with what we needed, but most of all it felt spacious and beautifully furnished. It was cosy, comfortable and atmospheric. In terms of location it was unbeatable. Right by the bridge over the river at the bottom of the high street, it is near the castle, play park, shops and cathedral. The surrounding countryside is stunning too. From the whole family - thank you for a truly perfect stay."

Perfect holiday base

"We stayed with our two and four year old children and Arundel was the ideal base for many activities nearby for kids. The cottage is immaculately presented and ideally located in Arundel with shops, pubs and restaurants all on the doorstep. Arundel is a lovely place to return to every evening after being out and about and Angel Cottage feels like home as soon as you step in the door. We were on a family holiday but Angel Cottage is perfect for a getaway without the kids as well. We will definitely be back."

Other Reviews

“We had a lovely stay at Angel Cottage, we enjoyed being so close to town and took advantage of the fabulous butcher and deli as well as the Saturday farmers market. We had a very successful outing to Gaston Farm for the 'open lambing tour' - really super and great value for money. We also enjoyed lunch at the Black Rabbit with its wonderful views. Thank you for making it an easy holiday and also for your thoughtful recommendations”

A. Elderfield
“Angel Cottage is lovely, and we were very glad to have stumbled on it via Amberley House Cottages! It is spacious and very well appointed, the kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed to cook with, and some bits to start us off (thanks Richard!). The house also has a great location - we stayed with children so it was great being able to run back from the village if we needed it. The parking space also comes in very handy. I would certainly recommend it as a base for visiting Arundel or the surrounding area.”

"Angel Cottage was very well presented and the owners were terrific in their level of contact and information in the run up to checking in. We were presented with a lovely fruit basket, some wine and water etc. The Cottage itself is beautiful, and the beds very comfortable. We will return in the summer with our children again."

All the modern comforts are incorporated within this traditional Arundel holiday cottage. Just an ideal setting for the town, the South Coast beaches and the South Downs

Angel Cottage stands on the site of the General Abercrombie pub in Arundel, which was lost in a fire some years ago. The site was cleared and two traditionally styled cottages were built to replace it, one of which is now available for holiday lets. The location is ideal, being just across the river Arun from the main part of the town of Arundel, with the Cathedral on the top of the hill and the Castle rising majestically from close to the river bank.

The kitchen is at the front of the cottage with plenty of space to enjoy meals at the dining table in the centre. The kitchen is compact and well thought out, with all you need for meals during your holidays. At the back of the cottage is a spacious sitting room, with French windows opening onto the patio garden. This is the ideal space for alfresco dining, or perhaps a barbecue on a warm evening.

Upstairs there are three bedrooms, a double, a twin and a single. All are furnished in a traditional style with modern beds that are of a traditional 19th Century appearance. The family bathroom contains a bath with shower over, together with a basin and WC, and there is also a downstairs cloakroom with basin and WC.

Unusually for Arundel, Angel Cottage has a dedicated off road parking space for one car.

Arundel and beyond

Arundel is a historic market town dominated by the symbolic castle and the rising spire of the cathedral. It offers a plethora of craft and antique shops as well as restaurants and tearooms. It’s a great place to wander and just enjoy its hospitality.

Arundel Castle is the seat of the Dukes of Norfolk and is set in 40 acres of sweeping grounds and gardens. The castle has been seasonally open to visitors for nearly 200 years. It is one of the great treasure houses of England and is home to priceless works of art in stunning rooms. The Keep at the centre of the castle dates from the 11th Century. Climbing the 131 steps to the top to take in the views over Arundel and The South Downs is definitely worth the effort.

During the summer the Arundel Festival is held over a ten day period and features an eclectic mix of music, drama and arts. Many homes open their doors and gardens over this period to provide a wonderful backdrop to the variety of art on show. Angel Cottage is perfectly placed to participate in as much of the activity as you like. We feature the festival under “What’s on” on the homepage of our website.

The River Arun winds its way around the town and is a magnet for wildlife. With more than 60 acres of ponds, lakes and reed beds, Arundel Wetland Trust attracts some of the world’s most spectacular ducks, geese and swans. The best way to enjoy the river is on a river cruise stopping off at the Black Rabbit pub or proceeding further north where the river hugs the scarp wooded slope at the foot of the Downs before reaching Amberley.

Further afield Arundel is well placed for the coast. Climping Beach and Littlehampton’s West Beach are only a short drive away. This is a beautiful unspoilt length of beach of Special Scientific Interest.

Goodwood and Fontwell racecourses are nearby along with the cathedral city of Chichester with its excellent Festival Theatre noted for not only the quality of productions but also the fact many world premieres are featured as well.

If you fancy a day in the city, Arundel mainline station is on a direct route to London so why not mix the cosmopolitan capital with this beautiful part of Sussex.
