A very busy calendar of events throughout the year, including Scallop week, Rye Jazz festival, Rye Arts and Music festivals and the wonderful Rye bonfire spectacular.

A good start to any stay in Rye, is a visit to the town’s Heritage Centre. Here you can watch the Town Model’s ‘Sound and Light’ show, which retells Rye’s colourful, historic past. Then take a trip upstairs and play the ‘Old Penny Pier Machines’ and giggle with the ‘Laughing Sailor’ or have your fortune told by ‘Sidney Knows’! If antiques interest you, then visit the Strand Quay where you can wander amongst the small shops and bag yourself a bargain.

For the days when the weather is a little below par, why not visit our Kino cinema, all the latest films and even on occasions, live screening performances of Opera and Ballet from the London theatres. For the sporty among you, there is the Sports centre with pool.

The stunning sandy beach at Camber Sands is three miles away, with its safe bathing and miles of dunes, the perfect beach whatever the weather. A short drive is Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, where you can walk along the sea wall and out on to the marshes to enjoy the beautiful flora and fauna.

The towns of Hastings and Ashford are around a thirty minute drive away and here you can get a mainline train to London, if you wish to explore the capital for a day. Likewise from Ashford you can take a day trip to France on the Eurostar or pick up the channel tunnel from Folkestone, approximately a 45 minute drive.

"Buttercup is charming, well equipped and comfortable. It is situated near enough to Rye to walk into town, yet far enough away to be quiet and peaceful. It is also well positioned to explore deepest Kent and East Sussex - there is plenty to see and do."

" Buttercup " great place for chilling out!

"We had a very relaxing break at the Buttercup, very comfortable clean and well maintained, loved the location peaceful and quiet . Walked into Rye from cottage took about 15 - 20 min's , interesting town to spend a few hours, with loads of historic buildings and cobbled streets. Will be returning in the future and hopefully staying at Buttercup again. "
