Arundel and beyond

Eve's Cottage is situated within walking distance of all that Arundel has to offer with a multitude of craft and antique shops as well as restaurants and tearooms. It’s a great place to wander and just enjoy its hospitality.

Just a short stroll away is the impressive Arundel Castle which is the seat of the Dukes of Norfolk and is set in 40 acres of sweeping grounds and gardens. The castle has been seasonally open to visitors for nearly 200 years. It is one of the great treasure houses of England and is home to priceless works of art in stunning rooms. Climbing the 131 steps to the Keep, which dates from the 11th century, to take in the views over Arundel and The South Downs is definitely worth the effort. Beyond the castle grounds Arundel Park extends north towards the Downs offering many fine walks. A two mile walk to the top affords fantastic downland views and south to the coast.

The River Arun winds its way around the town and is a magnet for wildlife. With more than 60 acres of ponds, lakes and reed beds, Arundel Wetland Trust attracts some of the worlds most spectacular ducks, geese and swans. The best way to enjoy the river is on a river cruise stopping off at the Black Rabbit pub or proceeding further north where the river hugs the scarp wooded slope at the foot of the Downs before reaching Amberley.

Further afield Arundel is well placed for the coast. Climping Beach and Littlehampton’s West Beach are only a short drive away from Eve's Cottage. This is a beautiful unspoilt length of beach of Special Scientific Interest. At the eastern end beside the mouth of the River Arun is the West Beach Café, built by local craftsmen using materials sourced locally. It is worth a visit, the fish and chips come highly recommended!

Goodwood and Fontwell racecourses are nearby along with the cathedral city of Chichester with its excellent Festival Theatre noted for not only the quality of productions but also the fact many world premieres are featured as well.

If you fancy a day in the city, Arundel mainline station is on a direct route to London, so why not mix the cosmopolitan capital with this beautiful part of Sussex?

Five star stay in Arundel

"Eve's cottage is a beautiful living space easily accommodating 4 Adults and 2 children. The home had a warm light and airy feeling. The decor was beautiful and the layout was very sociable. All the comforts of home were supplied and it cater for all our needs. The location was brilliant and Arundel itself is a fabulous place to stay with abundance of restaurants, pubs and shops. Plus you have a Castle and Cathedral as your backdrop and for adventure a wetlands centre and beach nearby. We had a brilliant time Glenys "

Fantastic Christmas stay

"We stayed over Christmas, and were delighted with the facilities available. The kitchen contained everything we could need (so important when planning a family Christmas dinner), and the cottage was tastefully decorated, and very welcoming. We appreciated the little extra touches (greeted with mulled wine and mince pies and even a little Christmas present from the cottage 'elves', plus a fantastic selection of teas, and a coffee machine etc etc). Beds were comfortable and the front bedrooms had fantastic views over Arundel and beyond. The living room was cosy, and a pleasant place to relax, with a wood burner and logs too. I got the impression that the owners had taken great care and had put alot of thought into providing everything we could need for a Christmas stay. I appreciated the emails from Ian before we arrived, and the efforts that he made in complying with our requests for board games, which saved us having to fit them in our rather full car. The only down side was that the en suite shower was at times just a trickle, but not really a problem as there was a serviceable shower in the main bathroom, and we found that we could still manage to use the en suite shower if we were patient. Parking perhaps could be a little tricky but we were lucky to find a space right outside the cottage and so we parked up and did not move the car all week (plenty to occupy us around Arundel anyway). "

We are glad that you enjoyed your stay, and thanks for your comments. We are sorry about the poor flow-rate in the en suite shower. This problem has not been reported before: the current boiler is being replaced in early January, and we will investigate thoroughly then.

The Perfect Place for Visitors to the U. K. to stay & to entertain family and friends. The Best.

"Visiting England, from Australia, for three weeks it was very important for us to find an accommodation that provided everything we required to feel comfortably at home, able to entertain family and friends and for them to stay with us. Location was important also and that is why we chose Eve's Cottage in Arundel. Eve's cottage was the perfect place and with everything one could wish for provided. The weekly linen change was much appreciated and any queries we had regarding local information were answered promptly. Arundel is in the centre of many historical places to visit and there are also beaches, country walks nearby for those who enjoy outdoor activities."

A wonderful break in a wonderful house

"Spent 5 days at Eves cottage with my husband, daughter, son in law and grandson(9) Everything provided, I mean everything! It was like being in a hotel except for cooking our own meals. To be greeted with fresh flowers and a bottle of wine was great too. We have been to places where we've had to buy salt and pepper! Not so at Eves Cottage, all the spices we could think of, a pint of long life milk in the fridge and lots more in the cupboards. The beds were very comfortable as were the sofas downstairs. In my grandsons words 'I love this house'! Only one downside was parking, only one day when I could park anywhere near the house and around the corner it's a very steep road, not good if you're asthmatic like me. But that was the only thing. Cosy cottage a few minutes walk from the town

"We booked Eves Cottage for a long weekend girlie getaway and I cannot emphasise enough how pleased we were with our choice of abode. The cottage was immaculately clean and every eventuality catered for, right down to a First Aid kit! The cottage is simply but comfortably furnished and feels very homely as soon as you walk through the door. We had fantastic weather and were able to explore the castle, town and surrounding area but even if the weather hadn't been so good we would have been equally happy relaxing in the cottage. We loved Arundel and Eves Cottage and will definitely make plans to return soon!"

Perfect cottage for a family holiday

"Eve's Cottage was the perfect place for a week away with our 14 month old. The cottage was beautiful and had everything we needed and more. It was a great location in Arundel, easy walking distance to everything we needed. We particularly enjoyed eating breakfast at The Loft at Sparks Yard. Ian was so helpful and accommodating before and during our holiday, ensuring that we had a great stay. We would love to come back and have already recommended Eve's Cottage to our family! "
