A charming cottage which is perfectly located in a picturesque South Downs village at the foot of the Cissbury Ring; ideal for both families and walkers.

Fig Tree Cottage is tucked away from the centre of this quaint West Sussex village and, having been a part of the old village post office, you will no doubt spot the traditional red telephone box and mailbox at the entrance. You enter the cottage into the open plan living area with a double height beamed ceiling giving a great feeling of light and space. The lounge area has a large, leather sofa with an armchair next to the traditional woodburning stove. The smart television has Freeview channels available and there is WIFI throughout the cottage.

There is a good sized kitchen in the cottage with a gas hob, oven and washing machine fitted and the dining area, which is adjacent to the kitchen, has a table which comfortably seats four. Additionally on the ground floor is a twin bedded room with an ensuite WC as well as a large family bathroom with a wet room shower, bath, WC and basin.

The principal bedroom is on the first floor and has a double bed, fitted wardrobes, dressing table and its own ensuite with a bath, shower attachment, WC and basin. There is a small room also available on this floor for a travel cot.

Outside there is a enclosed, sunny courtyard garden; a perfect spot to enjoy your morning coffee and relax in the sunshine or perhaps enjoy a well deserved glass of wine after taking a walk up Cissbury Ring to see the wonderful panorama.

There is an allocated parking space for one car outside the cottage and additional free street parking should you require.

Findon and beyond

Findon Village is steeped in history, situated at the base of Cissbury Ring - the second largest Hill Fort in the country (dating back to the Iron Age) and the the village was actually mentioned in the Doomsday Book. Situated within the South Downs National Park , it is a downland village designated as an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There are plenty of country walks including the Monarch's Way, a 615 mile footpath which passes through the village.

Situated within the South Downs National Park , it is a downland village designated as an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There are plenty of country walks including the Monarch's Way, a 615 mile footpath which passes through the village.

There is no shortage of places to eat and drink in the village with three pubs and 2 restaurants. Findon Sheep Fair takes place in September and has done so for over 200 years. Apart from sheep judging competitions, there is entertainment for all ages including a fun fair.

To the west of Fig Tree Cottage, there is the historic market town of Arundel dominated by the symbolic castle and the rising spire of the cathedral. It offers a plethora of craft and antique shops as well as restaurants and tearooms. It’s a great place to wander and just enjoy its hospitality.

Arundel Castle is the seat of the Dukes of Norfolk and is set in 40 acres of sweeping grounds and gardens. The castle has been seasonally open to visitors for nearly 200 years. It is one of the great treasure houses of England and is home to priceless works of art in stunning rooms. Climbing the 131 steps to the Keep, which dates from the 11th century, to take in the views over Arundel and The South Downs is definitely worth the effort.

Fig Tree Cottage is also well placed for the coast. Goring beach, which is just 15 minutes drive from the cottage, extends for nearly two miles. To the east, a wide promenade continues for several miles through Worthing to the eastern boundary of the borough at Lancing. To the west, a footpath continues along the top of the beach through Ferring. The shingle beach offers good bathing at high water. At low tide, up to half a mile of sand and rocks are exposed providing opportunities for walking, exploration of rock pools, paddling and ball games.

Littlehampton’s is also just a short drive away which is a beautiful unspoilt length of beach of Special Scientific Interest and at the eastern end beside the mouth of the River Arun is the West Beach Café built by local craftsmen using materials sourced locally. It is worth a visit, the fish and chips come highly recommended!

Goodwood and Fontwell racecourses are nearby along with the cathedral city of Chichester with its excellent Festival Theatre noted for not only the quality of productions but also the fact many world premieres are featured as well.
