Leeds castle is ten minutes from the property and is set in 500 acres of beautiful parkland. The historic castle, glorious gardens, attractions and programme of events, is open all year round and there is something for everyone.

The market town of Maidstone is only three miles away and is known as the heart of the'Garden of England'. Once, better known for its brewing and paper making past, now more of a haven for shoppers and tourists. The river Medway runs through the centre of the town, linking Maidstone to Rochester and the Thames Estuary. Once the main trade route, now used more for pleasure and tourism, with a River Festival in July. The town has a selection of museums and galleries to enjoy.

The historic Rochester is twenty minutes away, the home of author Charles Dickens, Rochester Cathedral, Rochester Castle and the Historic Naval Dockyards. The Dickens Festival in June, Sweeps Festival on May Day and the Dickensian Christmas Festival in December, make a day out here very worthwhile.

Family Christmas

"We booked Little House as it was near our son's home, we live in Cornwall and our other children live in Essex and Hong Kong. We all wanted to be together for Christmas and so the location was ideal. It was spacious downstairs with two bedrooms and a bathroom all of a good size and a further ensuite bedroom upstairs (couldn't work the heating upstairs so it tended to be cold). The open plan kitchen and living room allowed a very sociable space. The games room is a great addition when you have a lot of people around and is equipped with a table tennis equipment and a few board games. Although six of us stayed in the property, we catered for 10 on Christmas Day. The kitchen was particularly well equipped. The white goods all looked new and worked efficiently. The cooker was great, two ovens and a wide hob. Perhaps due for a clean. Finally the conservatory was light and could sit 10 with a mixture of chairs! It was a beautiful location, on the Pilgrims Way, very quiet with a superb pub, The Black Horse a short walk away. We got our turkey from the local buthcer, Crouch, situated just off the green in Bearsted. Superb. "

An okay stay

"Overall our stay was good. The cottage is spacious with an excellent garden and in a good location. The kitchen is nice and has a good open plan feel. However, there were a few issues and much room for improvement. The entire cottage requires a deep clean - there were a lot of cobwebs and a lot of short pet hairs on furnishings. The beds in the two downstairs bedrooms were uncomfortable and the beds in the twin room are really just foldout camp beds. The games room is great but the sofas are in terrible condition. Okay value for money - it's a good size and location but would expect it to be more thoroughly cleaned, with better furnishings for the price paid. "

Dear Amy Thank you for taking the time to post a review & provide us with information to work from. If we had known about the cleanliness issues during your stay we would have tried to remedy them but at least we can review them with the owner, now that we are aware. We are glad that despite the issues, you had a good stay and found the location suitable for exploring all the area had to offer. We hope you choose to stay with again in the future. (Amberley House Cottage Holidays) Response from owner: Dear Emma, I was disappointed to read your review of the Little House. I am a dog owner myself and am always pleased to offer my home to dog owners all over the world. The previous guests had arrived from Germany with their dog and had a wonderful time.My housekeeper and myself remarked to the family how grateful we were on how clean they had left the house and they replied "it had felt like their own". Several hours were then spent preparing for your family Emma so I was sad to read that I had not come up to scratch and had let you down. Although I have not read this before I shall take your comments on board. With Thanks Michelle McCarthy

Amazing Place

"Thank you Michelle for a wonderful stay at Little House. We had an amazing time staying there with all the amenities you could ever need. Especially the games room which provided us with endless laughs and fun. Would highly recommend this house in Bearsted. The name is Little House but there is nothing little about it. Really loved all the Christmas decorations too."

Little House

"Nice (modern cabin style) setting with good walks and lovely views nearby. Lovely local deli corner shop. Really enjoyed a visit to Whitstable. Clean and comfortable apart from very smelly dishwasher on arrival (resolved by us running an empty hot cycle). Main bedroom upstairs, others downstairs so possibly better for family with older children (worked fine for us). Garden not completely secure for dogs (gap under gates etc). Slight changeover issue with delay getting in (given extra time on check out day to compensate). Welcome provisions e.g. Milk, teabags and small information folder not provided - would have been nice extra touch. Children slightly disappointed that most Sky channels didn't work - would be better not to have them at all on screen if this is the case!"
