You enter the property through the small courtyard garden directly into the bright, warm double bedroom, with its soft furnishings and elegant country style interiors. To the left of the bedroom is a modern en-suite shower room, with a large walk in power shower.

From the bedroom a door leads into the large open plan living area, with exposed beams and brick work and a large picture window with views of the stunning Winchelsea countryside. There is a woodburner with an initial supply of logs for those evening when you wish to cosy up in front of the TV on the comfy sofa. There is a good selection of DVD’s, local reading material and a choice of games for those chilled out moments or when the weather encourages you to stay inside.

The kitchen area features a range style cooker, dishwasher and is fully equipped for all your holiday catering needs. There is a dining table in front of the picture window for those lazy breakfasts or evening meals.

Outside the property there is a small, private courtyard with table and chairs, perfect for morning coffee or an evening glass of wine.

The property is dog friendly and there is plenty of opportunity to explore the 1066 trails only moments from the cottage.

Parking is available in the lay-by opposite.

The owners live in the adjoining property and are on hand if required.

Winchelsea and beyond

Paradise Mews is located in the Ancient Town of Winchelsea, which is one of the few examples of a bastide town in England. It is based on the grid-iron street plan with wide, regular streets arranged around a giant square and the incomplete, cathedral type church of St. Thomas the Martyr. Generally accepted as one of the finest examples of the decorated period in the country, the church contains fine carvings, delicate tracery, lofty arches with piers and fluted shafts of Caen stone and marble and magnificent canopied tombs including the famous Alard Tombs. Many a visitor, hunts out the grave stone in the churchyard of the comedian 'Spike Milligan', who lived at The Cottage. The town is steeped in history, with three medieval gates standing guard against long-departed foes; and beneath the broad streets, the hidden wine cellars of the old port town.

Rye is is about 5 minutes away by car and like Winchelsea enjoys a colourful medieval past, with plenty to visit and pretty shops and tea rooms to enjoy. The beaches of Winchelsea Beach, Pett Level and Camber Sands, are all within a 10 minute drive. Whether you wish to explore rock pools when the tide is out at Pett Level or walk for miles on the sandy beach of Camber Sands, there is lots to explore from your Winchelsea base. Only 20 minutes away by car is the traditional seaside resort of Hastings. Here you can walk among the fishing boats, or for a more cultural experience visit the new Jerwood Gallery, set amongst the old fishing huts.

Rye Harbour Nature Reserve is just a short drive away or a pleasant walk on a sunny day. The Nature Reserve lies within a triangle of land extending south from Rye, past Rye Harbour to the sea, westward to Winchelsea Beach and northwards along the River Brede. Renowned for its fauna and flora and as a haven for shore birds, a large part of the nature reserve is a 'Site of Special Scientific Interest'. Hastings Country Park is about 7 miles away and covers 267 hectares of ancient woodland, heathland and grassland, along with three miles of dramatic cliffs and coastline. These can be enjoyed whatever the season.

Lurcher paradise winchelsea

"We've stayed at a few Amberley properties now and this one is up there with the best . Lovely large shower , very comfortable bed and large living room with everything you could possibly need provided for your stay . Only a small outside space but literally across the road are miles of walking territory which our two lurchers enjoyed to the full . About one hundred yards away is the new inn if you don't fancy cooking or just fancy a pint although the cottage owners also have a B and B just down the hill and you can pop in for breakfast if you want . Ideally located to access rye , winchelsea and pett level beaches , Eastbourne and Hastings all of which have fantastic coastal dog walks and there are a number of dog friendly pubs in the area too . We would definitely return to this one we had a lovely lovely time . "
