A beautiful barn conversion in an area of outstanding beauty
"This beautiful house is near amenities, but secluded. A wonderful location for people who like luxury and love nature. We would surely recommend this property."
Hi Rolf, Thank you so much for your kind words. We do try very hard to keep Priors Barn looking beautiful and up to date and really appreciate your feedback. Best regards Kip and Sue
Lovely stay, great cottage, great location.
"Had a wonderful week here with our spaniel. Dog loved it. All home comforts and great enclosed private garden. Easy to get to South Downs and really liked the ashdown forest. We had hot weather so enjoyed sitting in the garden after a day out. Local pub did good food. Would book again. "
Thank you for your lovely review. We love having dogs at Priors Barn and, as you say, the surrounding countryside is perfect for doggy holidays. Hope to see you again - Kip and Sue.
Priors Barn, Maresfield
"A good central location for many attractions, relaxing surrounds, shop and pub within walking distance, "
A rural hide away
"This rural hide away has everything you could want, if looking for peace and solitude. A pub - 3 mins walk away (great sunday roast) Plenty to see and do on your doorstep, if you want to get out & about."
Beautiful converted barn
"A beatifully converted barn with all the mod cons, set in a lovely location. Enjoyed 6 relaxing days taking the dog to visit the forest, local pub and attractions."
"Lovely setting helped by a great week weather wise, only thing that let it down a little was that we found the sofa uncomfortable but that could just be because we are use to something bigger. Had everything you could need for a stay away. "
Thank you for your review. Sadly the barn isn?t huge so we can only fit a 3 seater sofa and a large single chair in. We?ve not had a problem with this before but can only apologise if you found it a bit small for you. Hope to see you again soon. Kip
Lovely property in an ideal location
"Just come back from a week staying at Priors Barn. Very enjoyable and relaxing week as it is in a great location and is a really lovely property. The barn is situated in a very quiet setting but where it is easy to get to everywhere from. Very comfortable and well equipped especially with cooking equipment which is a real bonus. Lots of thoughtful extras provided in case you have forgotten anything. Log burner was well used even though not an overly cold week and again everything provided to make things as easy as possible. Secluded outside space which would be ideal for relaxing in warmer weather. We will be coming back to stay again. "
Review for Priors Barn - an excellent place to stay
"We found this to be an excellent place to stay. We were warmly welcomed and everything was prepared and to hand. The location is very good and this is a very peaceful but not remote setting. We are already looking forward to our next stay. We had our dog and Priors barn was wonderful for him. Enclosed garden and close to lovely walks. "
Thank you for the excellent review and I'm so pleased you enjoyed your stay. It was good to meet you both and your lovely dog and look forward to seeing you again at Christmas. Kip
Oh What a wonderful week
"Having just returned from Priors Barn cottage we had a wonderful time there, it is ideally situated to get around the country or go to the coast, the cottage and garden are superb with everything that you want nice quiet location in the country. If we had one thing to complain about it would be that the cottage needs new sofa's as the ones there are extremely uncomfortable. However that is a small thing in comparison to the great week spent there"
Thank you for your glowing review of Priors Barn. I am so pleased you had such a wonderful stay. We try very hard to provide everything our guests require and are always just a phone call away if anything is not up to standard. I am very sorry to hear that you found the sofa so uncomfortable. We have not had any complaints in the past about it but I did actually order new cushions last week which are being made now as I noticed they were starting to wear at the front and starting to sag. These new cushions, I'm sure, will resolve any issues regarding the comfort of the sofa as well as its appearance and will be delivered early in September. I do hope you'll visit again in the near future. Best regards, Kip
Two and a half years in the making to transform from what was an open pig barn to what you see today a stunning and high specification property that is just perfect for a couple wanting to relax and enjoy the countryside in some style.
Priors Barn is on the southern fringes of the Ashdown Forest in the tiny hamlet of Underhill and surrounded by woodland. It is in the most peaceful setting with a lake across the lane to the front and a gentle stream flowing beneath the garden decking to the rear. It is rare to find a property that is so private. Priors Barn is one such property.
With golden oak, and plentiful light the barn has a warm and comfortable glow. The French doors face to the south and in summer open out to give the feel of open space. In the winter and on those cool spring and autumn evenings the woodburning stove provides ample heat and keeps it intimate and cosy.
The barn is comprehensively equipped from the fitted soft lighting to the provision of three televisions with satellite TV. The bedroom has a double bed with an ensuite shower room that features a suitably large walk in shower cubicle.
If you are looking for somewhere special then Priors Barn will almost certainly leave you with fond memories.
The tiny hamlet of Underhill is on the edge of the Ashdown Forest. It sits at the foot of a small hill below the village of Maresfield. The Ashdown Forest is 14,000 acres of lowland heathland that has never been cultivated that provides a unique habitat for many species of flora and fauna, and of course is the ‘home’ of Winnie the Pooh! It offers extensive opportunities for walking and within its boundaries it includes the Ashdown Forest Llama Park.
Two miles to the south east of Priors Barn is the market town of Uckfield set partly on a hill and on the crossing point of the River Uck. It features a number of attractive post medieval buildings in particular the Old Grammer School, Bakers Cottage, the Malt House and Malt Cottage along Church Street that all pre date the 1700’s.
To the west are Sheffield Park Gardens a magnificent internationally renowned ‘Capability’ Brown landscaped garden owned by the National Trust. It provides a tremendous variety of colour and texture throughout the season.
The start of the Bluebell Railway is right next to the gardens at Sheffield Park. It is the preservation of a local branch line and runs north through Horsted Keynes, Kingscote and on to East Grinstead recreating life on the branch line from the Victorian era right through to the 1950’s. It is one of the major visitor attractions in Southern England. We feature links to both the Bluebell Railway and Sheffield Park Gardens under ‘Places to visit’ on our website.
Journey south from Priors Barn and Eastbourne and the chalk cliffs at Beachy Head are within a half hour drive.
It is a beautiful area in which to stay and there is much to invite you to go out and explore.
