"The most comfortable cottage we have hired in years. Beautiful scenery from every window. The private woodland makes for lovely lazy days without jumping in the car. Also a great base for visiting attractions around Sussex. Nearby Petworth ideal for delicious food and shopping."
Woodland Cottage stay
"Charming and excellent location cottage, just what we needed. Lucy and Dave were lovely. Would definitely like to go back again, and would recommend this to friends."
"The cottage was in a beautiful setting , the owners were realy helpful , and the property was clean and well equipped "
Beautiful location, Perfect cottage
"We booked this cottage to spend a week of quality time with our newborn girl in nature and couldn't have asked for anything better. The location is simply beautiful, on a large compound with private woodlands and open views onto Burton Park. We were met by Lucie and David our lovely hosts who live next door and showed us around the property. They were simply amazing, always helpful yet letting you enjoy your stay. The cottage is basically as good as it gets. VERY spacious for a 1-bed (large living/dining area, HUGE kitchen and huge master suite, along with a nice entrance foyer). It was spotless when we moved in, from the light carpets to the towels, everything was like in a 5-Star hotel. All the furniture, fittings and equipment is top quality (Villeroy&Boch, John Lewis, Laura Ashley) so enjoy them but make sure to keep them in good order for the next guests! Great base if you are here to explore nearby villages (many of them within 10mins drive) or go for long walks/runs as we did with an endless network of footpaths to explore (maps provided on site if you need them too). Convenience shops are within 5mins drive (or a nice 30mins jog) along with a couple of great farm shops (check out Charlie's!). Can't give this place enough praise. Thank you to our lovely hosts for an incredible week."
Perfect short break
"The Cottage is equipped to a high very standard and in a very quiet and tranquil location. Also within a relatively short distance there are many interesting villages to visit including Arundel, Midhurst and Petworth where walks and visits to Castles and Historic Houses are possible.Chichester and the coast are also only a short distance away where the beaches and walks around West Wittering are well worth a visit. So if you are a keen walker and interested in History or just want a very relaxing stay Woodland Cottage is an ideal choice."
A pleasant stay at the foot of the South Downs
"The cottage is in a very quiet location close to woodland and countryside. Access by car is easy and there is no problem about parking. Our hosts were very friendly, helpful and always available. Our only reservation was about the underfloor heating because of its lack of flexibility. This meant that we were too hot at times. Printed information about heating and TV controls would have been useful. The cottage is an excellent base from which to explore the beautiful South Downs area."
Extraordinary good cottage
"The cottage is very well equiped, cosy etc, etc. At a scale of 0 to 100, we would give 100 points. We wil recommend this cottage to our friends. Yours Sincerely Bert Bannink"
Many thanks for your lovely comments regarding your stay at The Woodland Cottage. We hope to welcome you back in the near future and will aim to achieve 110 points next time!
Walking with Bluebells
"We stayed at the cottage because we were attending an event in the area. We found it very airy and spacious which is rare in a cottage for just two people. The house is beautifully situated overlooking a lovely pond with bluebell woods across the road. It is very convenient for Chichester, Goodwood and Petworth and there are lots of well-marked paths leading up on to the downs and beyond. We have recommended it to our friends."
"High standard cottage in a lovely setting. Perfect for a relaxing stay. "
"A wonderful cottage in a great location with nice views across to Burton House. More crockery and cutlery would mean you do not have to run the dishwasher so oftern. "
"We stayed at Woodland Cottage in late March 2017. The house is very comfortable, well appointed and in a beautiful location. The owners, Lucy and David, were friendly and helpful and it all contributed to making an excellent holiday exploring the South Downs on our bicycles."
Very pleasant and restful stay and good base for walking parts of the South Downs Way.
"Stayed at Woodlands Cottage for 7 nights and found it very comfortable and restful. Working the TV was a bit hit and miss until I realised the remote control's batteries were running down. The cottage was very spacious and well equipped with top-line model cooker and washing machine. The surroundings of the cottage was very pleasant with ponds, copses, sheep and squirrels. You also have access to the woodlands over the road which has some nice walks and a picturesque stream. Five minutes walk and you're at the Cricketers for rustic ambience, log fire and filling meals. The cottage was a great base for walks on parts of the South Downs Way and visiting the many surrounding villages. Travelling solo or as a couple, Amberley House Cottage is a great stay and good value."
"Had a great stay, lovely location & fab hosts - what more do you need? Lovely pub within walking distance as well! Ideal for exploring Petworth & the surrounding area especially NT properties "

Approaching The Woodland Cottage from the gravel drive you find an extremely spacious, detached holiday property for two situated in the grounds of the owners' main residence. This cottage offers generous room proportions in all areas and wonderful outlooks over the surrounding countryside.
The triple aspect living room area offers views over the pond to the rear and the private woodland to the front. Two comfortable sofas for relaxing in and a rustic dining table ensure a comfortable area to dine and unwind in. A fully equipped kitchen offering all modern conveniences with a handy table and chairs to have breakfast at before heading off to explore the surrounding countryside. The bedroom has a king sized double bed with free standing wardrobe and a sofa for two in the nook. The en suite bathroom has a modern suite of WC, basin, bath and separate walk in shower. The cottage has an underfloor central heating system throughout and, on sunny days, the patio area outside the cottage provides an opportunity to enjoy an aperitif overlooking Burton Park, a 19th century country house, in the distance.
A mere 400 metres to the local public house and a short distance for access to a multitude of public walkways and bridleways, The Woodland Cottage is positioned perfectly for your rural getaway.
The Woodland Cottage has access to private woodland which then leads on to Duncton Hill. Take in the vantage point from the hill where there are un-interrupted views north across the Sussex Weald towards Blackdown, the highest point within the South Downs National Park and then beyond to the North Downs.
The cottage is less than four miles from the historic town of Petworth with a wide variety of antique shops and tea rooms along with Petworth House and deer park. The house contains the largest display of Turner paintings outside of London while the park is the design of Capability Brown. Both are owned and maintained by The National Trust. Petworth itself was immortalised in his paintings. Petworth itself is full of quaint houses and cottages, many within their own courtyard settings. They are interspersed with antique shops and tearooms so it makes the ideal place for a stroll following your enjoyment of Petworth House and Park.
Under ten miles away is the setting for the Goodwood Estate where you can enjoy the premier motorsport events as well as Glorious Goodwood racing festival. Or, of course, you can explore the wonders Goodwood House which combines the glamour of a great English country house with the warmth of a family home. Home to the Earl and Countess of March this elegant Sussex house provides a dramatic setting for one of the most significant private art collections in the country.
Twenty minutes south of The Woodland Cottage is Chichester, the cathedral city of Sussex. It is one of the great well-preserved Georgian cities in the UK that has played a key role in the affairs of Sussex since at least Roman times. The city centre is neatly enclosed within the ancient city walls, which helps to make Chichester compact and pleasant to explore on foot. It is a cosmopolitan, vibrant and friendly city proudly combining two thousand years of heritage with a lively lifestyle.
Also worth a visit is Arundel Castle, which is the seat of the Dukes of Norfolk, and is set in 40 acres of sweeping grounds and gardens and a mere 20 minutes drive away. The castle has been seasonally open to visitors for almost 200 years. It is one of the great treasure houses of England, and is home to priceless works of art in stunning rooms. Climbing the 131 steps to the Keep, which dates from the 11th century, to take in the views over Arundel and The South Downs is definitely worth the effort.
